"Treat the earth well. It was not given to you by your parents. It is loaned to you by your children." – Kenyan proverb.

FAQ

Some tips to prepare you for the wonder and splendour that Mnarani, Kilifi and Kenya have to offer!

How to Get Here & Transport:
Whether you are a local or International guest, not to worry as we can either advise you on options, or provide packages that include travel arrangements; depending on your particular circumstances and location. International Flights - Scheduled flights to Kenya run from all around the world. Check out offerings from Kenya Airways, British Airways, Ethiopian Airways, Turkish Airways and Emirates.

Domestic Flights - The nearest airports are in Malindi (north of Kilifi) and Mombasa (south of Kilifi). Transfers from Malindi take about 60 minutes, while transfers from Mombasa take about 90 minutes. Airline providers include Kenya Airways, Fly540 and JamboJet.

In Kilifi the main bus park hosts 'matatus' (taxis) that run north-south up and down the Mombasa-Malindi highway. It is also the starting point for the Mash Poa Executive Bus Service to Nairobi (3 buses daily). There are a number of local taxi services available for trips to Watamu, Mombasa or Malindi. You will find a tuk-tuk easy, safe and affordable for local excursions and day trips.

Sit back, relax and let Mnarani and ACT Travel take care of all your travel arrangements for you.

Money:
The local currency is Kenyan Shillings (KSh). Expect shops, market stalls and beach vendors to all charge in Shillings. For your convenience, credit card facilities as well as a currency exchange service (ZAR, USD, UERO and GBP) are available at Mnarani Club. Visa cards and MasterCard are gladly accepted, but no Diner's Club cards, American Express cards or personal/ traveller's cheques.

ATMs are widely available in Nairobi and the main towns (including Kilifi) and credit cards are widely accepted throughout Kenya.

What Is The Weather Like And When Should I Go?
Any time is a good time for Mnarani! Kilifi's average temperature remains 26-30 ᵒC (78-86 °F) throughout the year and along the coast the humidity is kept at bay by the cool ocean breeze. The wettest months are May to July and there's also a short rainy season from October to November. During the rainy season you can expect early morning and late afternoon bursts of rain. This means you still get to enjoy a full day of leisure activities in between refreshing rain showers.

December through to March is generally regarded as the dry period each year, which makes for great game-spotting. Kenya is known for its abundant nature and wildlife and if you're planning to combine your Mnarani coastal paradise stay with a trip inland for a safari, then this is a good time for it.

There simply is no 'best' time to go; at Mnarani you will have an amazing experience, all year-round.

What to Bring:
Remember to bring along your passport and visa, if required and your valid International Certificate of Vaccination against Yellow Fever. South Africans don't require a visa for up to 90 days, but British nationals require a visa to enter Kenya. Not sure if you require a visa? Confirm on this website; www.kenyahighcom.org.uk.

Bring plenty of sunscreen, light clothing for the day and something nice to wear for your unique Mnarani dining experiences. Be sure to bring a sufficient supply of good mosquito repellent to apply to your person; staff spray the rooms daily and there are mosquito nets fitted in each bedroom. Don't forget a camera to capture the most unforgettable time of your life!

Beach and pool towels are provided, free of charge.

Local Laws and Customs:
The coastal areas are predominantly Muslim. Although there are no strict dress codes, you should opt for more conservative dress when you are away from tourist resorts and hotels, especially in Mombasa town and during Ramadan, or if you intend to visit religious areas.

Smoking in all public places (except designated areas) is prohibited throughout Kenya. This applies to areas like hotel grounds, lounge areas and entrances. Smoking outdoors in any public street or on the beach is not banned.

Taking photographs of official buildings, including Embassies is not allowed. If in any doubt seek permission.

Health & Medical Care:
If you're heading to Kenya for the first time, be sure to visit your local GP or nearest travel clinic for a yellow fever immunization. Yellow fever immunization is compulsory and you need to present your Yellow Card (International Certificate of Vaccination) when entering Kenya. The validity period of an International Certificate of Vaccination or re-vaccination against yellow fever is 10 years, beginning 10 days after vaccination. You may also be advised to take Malaria precautions. Your travel agent will be able to assist you with information and advice regarding travel medical or health insurance. Certain South African and European banks provide limited free travel insurance with MasterCard, Visa cards or credit cards, when paying your travel tickets with the same card. Check with your service provider to see if you are covered or would like to top-up your cover.

Medical assistance is available on request. The nearest big hospital is in Mombasa.

Security:
The area around Kilifi Creek is a small and peaceful area, away from major cities and far from the Somali border. Mnarani Village and Kilifi Town are both known for their warm, friendly and welcoming residents. The local area is safe for walking and cycling. Please follow basic precautions, as you would travelling anywhere in the world, consider things such as not wearing expensive jewellery or carrying large amounts of cash.
